** To import a 3D Model in Altium, make sure that the library (.lia) of the part you need is properly imported in Altium. In case the library is not yet imported in Altium. Click here.

For Altium 17 below, follow these steps to import 3D Model in Altium.

  1. Open the footprint in Altium.
  2. Click Place. then on the drop-down list click 3D Body.


   3. A 3D Body pop-up window will appear. In this you have to click Generic STEP Model and click Embed STEP Model. Then find the file (.STEP) you have downloaded.

   4. After this your screen will go back to the footprint layout. This is an important part, you'll have to Left click at the center of the footprint to place the 3D STEP Model on the footprint.

  • In case your footprint is not designed by IPC standards, you should set your reference to the center. To do this, click Edit then on the drop-down list click Set Reference > Center.


For Altium 18 above, follow these steps to import 3D Model in Altium.

  1. Open the footprint in Altium.
  2. Click Place. then on the drop-down list click 3D Body.

     3. A pop-up window will appear. Browse for the downloaded .STEP file then click Open.

     4. Place the 3D model on the footprint and change the Rotations(X,Y,Z) and Standoff Height if needed on the Properties window on the right side panel.
